She moved to Greenwood, S.C. in 1972 to become an Associate Professor of the School of Nursing at Lander College (now Lander University). She remained at Lander until her retirement in 1984 at which time she was made Professor Emeritus.
Professor Luddy was a career-long member of the American Nurses’ Association, and Director of the MEGALS Rural Health Initiative. At Lander, she received Honorable Mention as Distinguished Professor in 1983 and upon her retirement she attained the double honor of receiving Lander’s first Nursing Education Department “Medallion of Recognition” and the establishment of the “Agnes M. Luddy Annual Nursing Scholarship” by her peers, students and friends.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood, S.C. and was a member of the Greenwood Catholic Woman’s Club and the Greenwood Pilots Club.
Among those who will mourn her loss, but celebrate her life is a nephew, David Axelby of Baltimore, MD; nieces, Ann Axelby McKnew of Riviera Beach, MD and Joan Axelby Lloyd of Pasadena, MD; eight grand-nephews and nieces and six great-great nephews and nieces. In addition, she leaves her cherished friends, including Gloria Reynolds, Claire and Charlie Lober and their family, Charlotte Cabri, Cindy Gary and many friends from the Wesley Commons community.
