Biography

RALEIGH, N.C. – Mrs. Lorraine E. (Crowley) Cook, 88, formerly of Riverside St., in Oakville, died Thursday, April 29th, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C. She was the wife of Raymond G. Cook.
Mrs. Cook was born in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., March 5, 1922, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Vera (Kellas) Crowley. She lived in Oakville for many years and attended Waterbury Schools. She worked in the school lunch program at Watertown High School as a cook and baker for 18 years. She was a longtime, active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church.Mrs. Cook served as an usher and on its vestry. She and her husband worked for many years as the chairs of the Tag Sale Committee and on dinners and bazaars. She was also a member of the Goodwill Chapter, Order Eastern Star #112, Amaranth Court #2, Watertown Grange, and the Oakville Senior Center.
Besides her husband of 68 years, she leaves a daughter, Pamela Varsel of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Bernard Crowley of Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Virginia Sumpter of Sebring, Fla., 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Raymond G. Cook Jr.; a daughter, Joan Willette; and her brothers, Roger & Glenn Crowley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cook will be held Tuesday morning 10:00 a.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 262 Main St., Oakville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, North St., Watertown. Friends may call at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, Monday evening 6:00pm -8:00pm.
