Vincent Banda

June 28, 1949 - March 3, 2010

Watertown, CT – “What through the radiance which once was so bright, Be now for ever taken from my sight, Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower; we will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind...”
William Wordsworth, from “Ode on Intimations of Immortality From Recollections of Early Childhood.”
May he rest in peace, our Vinnie. A final salute, Vinnie of Watertown, beloved husband and best friend of Susan (Handura) Banda passed away peacefully at home while holding his Suzi’s hand on March 3, 2010 after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Vinnie led a memorable and momentous life filled with many endeavors including, Boy Scout leader, Master of Ceremonies, Town of Watertown employee, sales associate for American Copy Service and most recently sale associate and “on air” personality with WATR radio in Waterbury.
Vinnie was involved in several organizations including PROFNET of Waterbury, The Exchange Club of Waterbury, The Valley Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus, and was a veteran of the Watertown Fire Department.
He was an avid history buff, especially WWII, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
But of all his favorites, one stands above, his “Saturday Morning Mahem” show. Vinnie lived for his show – his cowboy corner, story of the week, his saddle pals (1,000+) and his oldies, talking to his listeners and his producer, Eddie.
Vinnie was a published author, writing an anthology of poetry, A Look At Life Through My Eyes published this January by Author House Publishing. Vinnie’s poetry reflects many aspects of his life.
Aside from his loving wife, Suzi of 38 years, Vinnie leaves a brother Lou, brother Dominic, sister Theresa and their families. He also leaves his mother, Celia; extended family members, James Greenwood and his family; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and countless friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-7pm at the Hickox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St., Watertown. folowed immediately by a gathering downstairs in Fr. Filip Hall. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
Donations can be made to the Vinnie Banda Memorial Fund care of Thomaston Savings Bank, 565 Main St. Watertown. For additional information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.hickcoxfuneralhome.com
Suzi would like to especially thank the Watertown Fire Dept, Yale New Have Hospital Medical Oncology 9th floor staff, and the WATR radio staff for their support.
